The Canadian Values Party vows to bring respect and honour back into the House of Commons. For as long as anyone can remember, hecklers and bullies have been the “norm” in the house of commons. It has gotten so bad that now it’s just one big joke. At it’s worse, Justin Trudeau actually assaulted 2 people. Of course nothing ever came of those assaults because the majority of the committee deciding what to do about it worked for him.
Bad MP behaviour prevents Canadians from pursuing public office: report
A committee report says the lack of decorum in the House is preventing the space from being inclusive.
With political life having a reputation for mudslinging and heckling, a recent report tabled by a House committee found this behaviour amongst Parliamentarians prevents some potential candidates from entering into politics.
NDP MP Irene Mathyssen (London-Fanshawe, Ont.), who serves as the party’s deputy whip, said when she and the late Jack Layton would ask women to pursue public office many declined because of the perceived hostile work environment. On top of the workload and the stress on private lives, often women expressed their concern over the lack of decorum amongst Parliamentarians.
“Heckling can be quite vicious. It’s sexist, it’s racist, it’s overtly partisan, and it’s out of place,” the veteran affairs critic said.
Ms. Mathyssen, who’s had an extensive political career, has often found herself on the receiving end of heckling.
